Welcome to the home page of Dr. Steven Yuen£¨Ô¬×«Ó¢). He is currently directing the development of the next generation satellite communication system for the Department of Defense. Prior to this project, he led the development of the 3G UMTS Radio Network Controller (RNC) at Motorola and helped integrate the RNC from Motorola with the Core Network from Huawei for the 3G field trial in China in 2002. He has also consulted for UT Starcom in China, Lockheed Martin in Maryland, and Rockwell Collins in Iowa in the area of secure communication networking.

Dr. Yuen has a wide variety of expertise in computer sciences and telecommunications. He moved to Motorola in 1997 from Bell Communications Research where he has led several projects in performance analysis, database design, and network management.

After teaching and doing research at Texas A&M University, Dr. Yuen moved from academia to industry by joining Bell Communications Research, a spin off from Bell Labs during the AT&T divestiture, in 1986.

Academically trained in Atmospheric Sciences and air pollution engineering, Dr. Yuen received his Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 1979. His dissertation was to study the impact of sulfur aerosols on climate. His published paper in 1977 on the impact of increase in carbon dioxide and aerosol concentration to the temperature in the atmosphere is still one of the pioneer papers in this field. Upon graduation, he taught one year at the National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan as a Visiting Associated Professor. Then he joined the Hong Kong Environmental Protection Department and became one of the cornerstones in establishing the air pollution policies in Hong Kong. He set up the first ever air pollution monitoring network in Hong Kong in 1982. The data collected by this monitoring network serves as the foundation of some of the earliest and most significant air pollution legislation in Hong Kong.

Dr. Yuen is a Senior Member of the IEEE.  He was the General Chair of the Fall Conference, an IEEE technical conference held in Cedar Rapids, IA in 2004. He has also served in the technical committees and review panels of several professional conferences. Dr. Yuen has published more than 40 papers in professional journals and conference proceedings.

On the personal side, he is a tournament Bridge player. His team twice represented the state of New Jersey to play in the US National Bridge Tournament. During his spare time, he enjoys reading, singing in chorus, playing Soprano and Alto Recorders to accompany children choirs, playing Table Tennis, and spending time with his family.
