John Motley's biography
John Motley is best known to New Yorkers as director of the All City
High School Chorus, which has performed at Lincoln Center and on television.
A highlight of Prof. Motley's 35-year career was accompanying Marian Anderson
on her recordings for RCA Victor and her concerts in France and at the United
Nations. He founded and directed the All City Choir of New York, which served
as singing ambassadors for 20-years, honoring visiting dignitatires including
Pope Paul II, former President Jimmy Carter, the late Golda Meir and The Dalai
Lama of Tibet. Prof. Motley received the City's highest cultural award, the
Handel Medallion, from Mayor John Lindsay in 1970 and has been honored by
New York City's John F. Kennedy Library, the American Legion and the National
Association of Negro Musicians.
